This fast and energy-efficient method of travel has evolved because of the need to regularly cover large distances in search of food and water, rather than the need to escape predators. The comfortable hopping speed for the Red Kangaroo is about 13–16 mph, but speeds of up to 44 mph can be attained, over short distances, while it can sustain a speed of 25 mph for nearly 1 1/4 miles. A large male can be 6 ft 7 in tall and weigh 200 lbs.įact #2 Kangaroos are the only large animals to use hopping as a means of locomotion. Fewer in numbers, the Red Kangaroo occupies the arid and semi-arid centre of the country. I thought the kangaroo would be a fun animal to highlight, so here are some fun facts about the Kangaroo.įact #1 The Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest surviving marsupial anywhere in the world. Except when raising cubs, aardwolf are solitary animals. Aardwolf are smaller than other hyena relatives, weighing only 50 and 60 pounds and standing only 15 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder. They also eat insect larvae, and eggs of ground nesting birds. It’s main food source is the harvester termite. Striped and brown hyenas are predominantly scavengers, though they do supplement their diets with small prey from insects to foxes. Striped hyenas live in Africa, Arabia, Asia Minor and India in savanna, thorn bush, and stony desert regions. Spotted hyenas make a variety of sounds: wailing calls, howling screams, and the well-known "laughter," which is used to alert other clan members of a food source. The spotted females are heavier than the males. Spotted hyenas are 28 to 35 inches tall and weigh 90 to 190 pounds. Besides flesh, they eat skin, bones, and even animal droppings. Spotted hyenas are hunters and scavengers. They live in territorial clans of related individuals, sometimes up to 80 members. The seventh picture was the winter of 2007 the same year as the rest of the pictures, look at the dip in her face, you can tell she is half Arabian in that picture!Īnd the final picture, is this year, look at her color change!!!įact #2 Spotted hyenas live in Africa in savannas, grasslands, woodlands, forest edges, subdeserts and mountains. The sixth picture was the winter of 2007 the same year as the other photos, look at how shaggy she was, and she is sooooo gorgeous in that picture!!!! The fifth picture was when I was 9 years old, and I was riding her. The fourth picture is Denali at the same time, but she is paying attention, maybe paying too much attention. ![]() The third picture is still at the same time, but she is reaching down into a crack in the feed trough to get some hay, told you she was a pig. The second picture is during the same time as the first picture. The first picture is when she was 3 if she is 6 now, and if she is 7 now she would be 2 in that picture, we don't know her age, but my mom's friend has it, because she owns Denali's mom, Angel, and she was the one you picked out the stud intending on keeping the foal, but I woke up one morning and saw Denali, and she let me keep her. ![]() She is a major pig though, if you have treats, she is right there with you. Temperament: She is a very nice horse, she bucked 2 times now with people on her, but she never really got properly trained, so I can understand why she did it. Color: Gray now but she used to be almost black around age 2 and when she was born, she was chestnut.
